Tronics will Manufacture DelfMEMS Innovative RF MEMS Switches

Dallas, TX, Grenoble, France (PRWEB) December 13, 2011

Tronics announced today that it has been selected by DelfMEMS S.A. as its MEMS foundry partner for manufacturing DelfMEMS’ revolutionary RF MEMS switches. Industrialization is already well underway and Tronics will address DELFMEMS high capacity needs starting in 2012.

DelfMEMS chose Tronics after a rigorous selection process among US, European and Asian MEMS foundries. Tronics was identified as the best positioned to meet DelfMEMS’ process requirements and the challenging supply chain needs of DelfMEMS’ customers.

Dr. Olivier Millet, CEO of DelfMEMS:

“The Tronics Dallas team provides us a rare combination of experience and flexibility which minimizes the risks associated with MEMS process transfers such as ours. Tronics offers us an established, high capacity wafer fab that has manufactured and delivered hundreds of millions of MEMS chips over the years. Additionally, Tronics’ special expertise in metal bonding and wafer level packaging will allow us to quickly move DelfMEMS’ unique RF switch technology into volume production”.

Tronics has already successfully completed several key process transfer milestones and will deliver samples in early 2012. Volume production will start at the end of 2012. The production volumes are expected to go beyond 20k wafers per year within a few years.

Brian Stephenson, President of Tronics Dallas, commented: “This DelfMEMS business is one of several major new foundry deals that Tronics Dallas won during 2011. It has a very high volume potential, not only in the cellular handset market, but also in other high volume markets where DelfMEMS’ technology shows clear advantages in terms of conductivity, linearity and reliability.”

This additional foundry business, together with 5 other important deals signed by Tronics Dallas in 2011, is considerably strengthening Tronics position in the US.

Herve Borrel, Director of Sales and Marketing for Tronics comments: “Our US MEMS foundry business is now an important element of Tronics’ overall growth. After 3 years of investment, it is very exciting to see our US strategy materializing into significant production and revenue. We owe that success in large parts to our very dedicated and experienced engineering team in Dallas.”
