Navigation technologies advances: the biennial technical conference exhibit PLANS

The Position Location and Navigation Symposium (#PLANS) is a biennial technical conference that occurs in the spring of even numbered years. The mission of the conference is to provide a forum to share the latest advances in navigation technology. For more information on the conference please visit www.ion.org/plans.

High performance digital inertial MEMS sensors platform paper

Our paper, “A New High-Performance, Closed-Loop Digital MEMS Accelerometers and Gyros Platform for Dynamic Applications” will be presented on Tuesday, Apr. 25, 8:30 a.m. by Pierre Gazull, Product Marketing.

Over the last 10 years, MEMS inertial sensors have demonstrated ever increasing performances in stability, noise, and repeatability. Consumer and automotive systems makers have widely adopted ultra-low-cost digital inertial sensors. Industrial, aerospace and defense markets have also commonly adopted tactical-grade, and mostly analog and open-loop MEMS accelerometers and gyros [1]. Despite their decent performances, these devices nevertheless demonstrate a limited ability to operate in harsh vibration environments [2]. In addition, they often exhibit heterogenous packages, form-factors, communication interfaces, power supplies and integration constraints. That is not to mention that some MEMS providers are focusing on accelerometers only or gyros only, creating significant design challenges for end-users to lower the overall system complexity and meet the cost-effectiveness and low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) requirements…
